Santander is a Spanish bank created by the union of traders of Cantabria, whose early financial activities dating from August 20, 1857. It is the origin of one of the largest multinational companies in Spain after the success and uptake of various domestic and foreign banks, the Santander Group consists mainly of the Banco Santander Central Hispano (BSCH), created in 1999 following the merger with the Bank Central Hispano (BCH). On March 10, 2007 the bank celebrated its 150th anniversary with a gathering of 1,300 bank executives in 22 countries and hosting the Gold Medal of Cantabria.
